How Ammo Works

Every caliber carries the same three types, so the choice is always the same three-way decision regardless of what you're shooting.

FMJ

Default

Shown in-game as Standard. Available from the start on every weapon that uses the caliber — no unlock, no cost.

HP

Early Unlock

Shown as Flesh. Unlocks span WARDOG Lvl 6 to 95, and every confirmed price is a flat $5,000.

AP

Late Unlock

Shown as Piercing. Unlocks run Lvl 63 to 140 — far beyond HP. Prices aren't confirmed yet.

Standard Is Early Game, AP Is Late Game

Read the two unlock columns side by side and the split is stark. Every HP unlock sits below Lvl 95; the lowest AP unlock is Lvl 63 and they climb to 140. For most of your playtime, HP is the only ammo upgrade actually available to you.

Earliest HP Unlocks

9x19mm · Lvl 6 5.56x45mm · Lvl 10 7.62x39mm · Lvl 11 5.45x39mm · Lvl 16

5.56x45mm is the caliber of all three free starting rifles, so its Lvl 10 HP unlock is the first upgrade most players can actually use.

Latest AP Unlocks

.308 Win · Lvl 140 .50AE · Lvl 130 .45 ACP · Lvl 120 .45 Colt · Lvl 110

Notably, AP order doesn't track HP order — 7.62x39mm has the earliest AP (63) despite a mid-range HP unlock.

The Verdict — Run Standard by default — it's the best go-to middle-ground ammo. Only switch to HP when you're specifically aiming for legs and arms. 12 Gauge is the sole exception to everything here: it has a fourth type, Rifled Slug, and none of its unlock data is confirmed.

Damage isn't just chest-vs-headshot — there's a full hit-location model: head, chest, stomach, arms, and legs are all separate zones. Per-zone damage multipliers aren't confirmed yet.
